JimmyGel is versatile, easy to apply, and a dream to work with for both natural nail overlays and extension repairs. In this post, we’ll walk you through how to get started with JimmyGel, including application instructions and key tips for a flawless, long-lasting finish.

Why Choose JimmyGel?

JimmyGel is known for its incredible flexibility, strength, with the option of easy removal methods or easy infills. Its formula allows for a range of applications, from simple overlays to extensions (great for those client's who need a nail repair!), and can be used under hard gel colour options as well as gel polish. This builder gel also eliminates the need for excessive filing due to it's amazing self levelling properties, making it a go-to choice for both experienced professionals and beginners.

What You’ll Need:

  • Airbond
  • Tack (or P+ QDbase)
  • JimmyGel (in Clear or a shade of your choice)
  • LEpro Cleanser and LEpro Cleansing Wipes
  • 100/180 Grit Lexy File or LE Perfect File
  • LEpro Cuticle Pusher
  • (Optional, for cuticle detailing) Zippy eFile with Z-Bits
  • LE LEDdot Lamp

Step-by-Step JimmyGel Application Instructions

Let’s dive into how to apply JimmyGel for a professional, long-lasting result.

1. Prep the Nails

Start with a thorough nail prep to ensure JimmyGel adheres well to the natural nail.

  1. Begin by pushing back the cuticles with the LEpro Cuticle Pusher. For detailed cuticle work, the Zippy eFile with Z-Bits is ideal.
  2. Lightly remove the surface shine of each nail using a 100/180 grit file. Take care not to over-file, as this can weaken the nails.
  3. Cleanse the nails thoroughly with LEpro Cleanser and LEpro Cleansing Wipes, ensuring all dust and oils are removed. A clean, prepped surface is essential for long-lasting adhesion.

2. Apply Airbond, followed by Tack (or P+ QDbase)

  1. For added adhesion, apply Airbond to the natural nail and allow to air dry for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Tack to the natural nail. (If you are planning to soak off the JimmyGel, use P+ QDbase instead)
  3. Cure the for 60 seconds in the LEDdot Lamp.

3. Apply the First Layer of JimmyGel

Now it’s time to apply JimmyGel! This layer can be used to create a smooth base or, if you’re creating extensions, to build the length.

  1. Apply a thin, even layer of JimmyGel to the nail, starting at the cuticle and pulling the gel toward the free edge. Be careful not to apply too much product to avoid flooding the cuticle.
  2. Cure for 60 seconds in the LEDdot Lamp or two minutes in a UV lamp.

(If an extension is required - apply a form before applying the base layer and then build out the free edge)

4. Build the structure & strength

JimmyGel is perfect for creating natural-looking structured overlays.

  1. Apply a second layer of JimmyGel, do not cure as this slip layer will allow the product to self level beautifully.
  2. Apply a dollop of JimmyGel to the apex area, lightly pull down toward the free edge and allow to self level.  You can use the JimmyGel brush or a detailer brush to smooth any uneven areas or fill a low spot.
  3. Turn the finger upside down to allow gravity to help the JimmyGel self level, keeping the thickness in the apex and the edges thin.
  4. Cure each layer for 60 seconds in the LEDdot Lamp.

5. (Optional) Shape and File

Once cured, you can file and shape the JimmyGel if needed.  Most of the time the JimmyGel doesn't need any surface filing as it self levels to a smooth finish.

6. Finish and Decorate

  • If you prefer a simple, natural look, apply P+ High Shine Top Coat or Super Shiny to JimmyGel for a glossy, strong finish.
  • Alternatively, add your favourite colour, glitter or nail art on top. JimmyGel’s durable surface works beautifully with P+ Gel Polish, ButterCreams, Glitter Gels, nail art, and other embellishments.
  • Cure each additional layer or decoration for 60 seconds.

Once all layers are cured, allow the top coat to cool for 30-60 seconds before cleansing with LEpro Cleanser.

File the free edge shape to perfect the shape and prolong the wear of the JimmyGel.  Credit card thickness at the very end of the free edge creates the best strength and avoids issues such as lifting, chipping or cracking.

Removal of JimmyGel

When it’s time to refresh or change the look, JimmyGel can be soaked off or infilled.

If you client is having regular JimmyGel appointments, we recommend infills rather than complete removal each time.  This will maintain the health of the natural nail and saves time in your services.

If complete removal is desired then JimmyGel can be fully removed with acetone.

  1. Begin by filing the surface of the JimmyGel to remove any decoration and reduce the thickness of the product by around 75%.
  2. Soak a cotton pad or ball in acetone, place it on the nail, and wrap with foil. Leave for 10-15 minutes.  (If Tack has been used under the JimmyGel, increase this to 20 minutes)
  3. Gently remove the softened gel with a cuticle pusher or orangewood stick. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damage to the natural nail.
  4. If needed, re-wrap the nails with remover for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  5. Cleanse the nails, and they’re ready for a natural nail manicure to complete the removal service.

Tips for a Perfect JimmyGel Application

- File the Free Edge: To prevent lifting and prolong the wear time, always file the free edge at the very end of the service.  The 180 grit side of a Finish File works perfectly for this.
- Flash Cure between each nail: Flash cure for a few seconds after applying the structure layer to hold it in place before the full cure.  You can either switch the hands between each nail, or use the FlashDot to flash cure.
