Where is your salon/studio based, or are you mobile?
My business, Studio Fifteen Nails, is home based, creating a private comfortable setting for clients to enjoy a relaxed service.
How long have you been in the nail industry? How did you start and why?
39 years ago I trained as a hairdresser and part of the training included basic manicure which I guess is where the seed was planted.
Years later I wanted to train in a new direction and did so in tanning, lashes, waxing, acrylic and gel nails.
Nails was where I wanted to take my career but I lacked in confidence.
Finding Jojo (now co-owner of LE UK) and becoming a client first, then learning the Light Elegance way with her was where my confidence grew.
What is your speciality?
I specialise in hard gel and love nail art. I have clients that love nail art and challenge me with their inspo pictures allowing me to be creative.
I also love a classic French Fade and Glitter Fade.
My new love is pedicures, those thick cuticles and hard skin challenges are great and when treated give that “wow” transformation.
Who or what inspires you in your work?
Anyone that has a passion in educating and encouraging safe application and prep work inspire me to be a better tech. Of course good classy art work is a love of mine to watch on the socials also I love to see pedicure videos.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for someone just starting in the nail industry?
"Train with several educators. They all have different tips and tricks and in taking bits from each of them you can find what suits you and your style of working. Choose a brand that has a great ethos and is safe for tech and clients.
Good e-file training will always be money well spent. Not only does it save elbow grease but it will level up your prep work."
What’s your top tip for nail applications?
Great prep work and choosing the right viscosity of gel the suits your speed of application is my top tip.
Don't be afraid to move the hand around even upside-down to get a smooth line of light and good apex.
How long have you been using Light Elegance products? What led you to use the brand and why do you continue to use them?
In 2017 I decided to train with Jojo and this is where I fell in love with Light Elegance. I did all the LEU modules and passed the Light Elegance Bachelor Degree in 2018. During this time I joined Jojo's salon team and gained invaluable tips and confidence.
In 2020 I opened Studio Fifteen Nails and continued using the Light Elegance products to this day.
I love how the products are made in house with the science explained in an understanding way. The moto “what inside matters” gives me the confidence that I am using the safest products not only for myself but for my clients too.
What are you Top 3 Light Elegance products and why?
- Tack - this bonder never fails me giving the perfect adhesion between the natural nail and the gel.
- Buttercream - these colour gels are highly pigmented which means they're great for nail art. The consistency gives great coverage allowing you to get really close to the skin without the fear of it flooding the nail folds.
